The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, held on Thursday 13 March 2014, in Rabat, talks with the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kristian Vigenin, who is paying a visit Morocco.
The consultations between the two ministers focused on several regional and international issues of common interest, and on ways to raise the bilateral relations to the level of the excellent political relations existing between the two countries, which are characterized by consistency and constructive dialogue on the regional and international issues, and by the dynamics of their relations, particularly regarding coordination at the United Nations and within other international bodies.
In this context, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar welcomed the climate of mutual understanding which shapes up the bilateral relations between Morocco and Bulgaria, as evidenced by the favourable Bulgarian positions vis-à-vis Morocco, within several international fora. The Minister also expressed Morocco’s desire to raise its relations with Bulgaria to the level of a strategic partnership.
Furthermore, Mr. Mezouar highlighted the need to give a new impetus to the strategic political dialogue between the two countries, through holding regular political consultations between the two countries – the most recent of which was held in 2009-, the holding of the Moroccan-Bulgarian Joint Cooperation Committee, and the operationalization of the Business Council between the two countries, in order to enhance the economic and trade cooperation, to exchange expertise in several areas, and to promote mutual investments.
For his part, the Bulgarian Minister welcomed the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, and expressed his pride regarding the choice of Morocco for his first official visit to the region, since his appointment as Head of the Bulgarian Diplomacy.
The Bulgarian Minister also expressed the wish of his country to benefit from the Moroccan experience in Africa, given its strategic position in the region. He also welcomed in this regard, the strategic vision of His Majesty the King vis-à- vis the Continent, and the determination of the Sovereign to further promote South-South cooperation. In this same vein, the Bulgarian Minister expressed his interest into Morocco, as a strategic partner in the region.
