Moroccan newspaper Assabah said Moroccan King Mohammed VI sent a clear message to Salafis in Morocco, in the wake of the Moroccan monarch accepting reformed salafi Sheikh Fizazi’s invitation to perform last Friday’s sermon and lead prayer before him at the Tariq Ibn Zyad mosque in Tangier.

Assabah quoted Abdellah Rami, a Moroccan expert in Islamic sects and organizations, saying: “This event is a clear message sent to Moroccan salafis, especially that Fizazi was sentenced to a 30 years jail spell over the 2003 Casablanca bombings.”

Abdellah Rami added that reformed Salafi Sheikh Fizazi used to refer to the Moroccan monarchy as a “Juggernaut”, before he benefited in 2011 from a royal pardon after spending 8 years behind bars.
