3 Gulf Arab states have recalled their ambassadors to Qatar in protest over its perceived support for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain issued a statement on Wednesday criticizing Qatar for backing a group they say poses a threat to regional peace and stability.

Qatar funded the Egyptian government of President Mohamad Morsi, who drew his support from the Muslim Brotherhood.

Saudi Arabia and other countries have cracked down on the group. They’ve also accused the Qatar-based satellite channel Al Jazeera of supporting it.

Gulf Arab states were divided over the issue at a meeting of foreign ministers in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The Qatari government issued a statement denying it poses a threat to its neighbors. It said it would not recall its ambassadors to the 3 states or take other retaliatory measures.
