Prince Moulay Hicham to LeMonde: Makhzen needs to be dismantled

King Mohammed VI’s cousin, Prince Moulay Hicham, who is nicknamed the Red Prince due to his criticism to the Moroccan monarchy and all Arab monarchies in general, is to release a book called “Journal d’un prince banni”, meaning a “Journal of a banned prince” in English, on the 9th of April.

According to an interview he accorded to LeMonde about his soon to be released book, the red prince calls for the dismantling of the Makhzen, which means the royal court that includes institutions that are close to the palace and his close advisors.

Moulay Hicham says that Morocco cannot move forward if this is not met. He also adds that Morocco does not represent an exception to the Arab Spring, it is Tunisia that does. However, he declared that there is a Moroccan advantage.

Moulay Hicham also gave different remarks about the Arab Spring and the situation in Bahrain among others.
