Ene Jones, an Economist at the university of Marne-la Vallée east-Paris, used a testing method to measure the ordinary experienced racism within the French community, in regards to the access to housing, clubs, restaurants and other public facilities.

Mrs. Ene used a  three names sample, of non physically existing people, two Arab names, Zahid Messai and Nassim Belahdeb, while the third is a typical European name, Sylvain Bernard. The Economist made three CVs, one per each, where Sylvian and Nassim appear to have only a Baccalaureate level in electricity, while Zahid has the same Baccalaureate level, plus two years Higher Technician Certificate. Mrs. Jones proceeded then and applied, using the three CVs each time, for various Electrical Technician offers. To her surprise, she found out that the French employers gave a remarkable advantage to names over degrees.

These far unexpected results, published in the Economist and Statistics Review, on Thursday, show that “Diplomas compensate only a part of the ethnic and religious origin” said Mrs. Ene Jones.
