The Chairman of the Committee of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Kadré Désiré Ouedraougou, said Wednesday in Rabat during a working visit to Morocco that the regional organization consisting of fifteen Western African States “relies heavily on the assistance of the Kingdom to implement its strategy to promote development in the Sahel”.

After giving an overview of the main points of the ECOWAS strategy for the Sahel, aimed at consolidating peace and stability in the region, Mr. Ouedraougou said that his visit to the Kingdom has a purpose of strengthening economic and trade relations between the fifteen West African States that form the ECOWAS and Morocco.

Within this framework, the chairman expressed the gratitude of the ECOWAS to King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan government and people for the support and interest granted to countries in the region, welcoming the recent tour of the King to many African countries, which has led to the several investment agreements.
