Morocco’s Office des Changes: Number of Tourists Visiting Morocco On a Hike

According to the latest statistics revealed by l’Observatoire du Tourime, the number of tourists that have visited Morocco has increased during the first five months of 2014 compared to the same period last year.

The number of arrivals has reached 3.57 million tourists with an increase of 9% from last year.

The main source markets of tourism have recorded positive results, especially that of Germany where number of tourists coming from there increased by 12%, the UK which increased by 21% and Italy which went up by 18%. France, Belgium and Spain showed increases of 9, 8 and 5% respectively.

Also and according to data provided by tourist accommodation professionals, the total number of overnight stays has increased by 10% compared to the same period last year. Marrakesh and Agadir recorded increases of 10 and 8% respectively; accounting for more than 60% of the total additional overnight stays the kingdom has recorded.

Other destinations have also recorded positive results, especially Casablanca (increase of 12%), Rabat (increase of 6%), Fez (increase of 13%) and Tangier (increase of 10%).

As a result of the increase of the number of tourists and overnight stays, revenues from tourism by non-residents in the country amounted to a total of 21.7 billion dirhams against 21 billion dirhams last year, namely an increase of 3.2%.
