Tangier Med: Container Traffic Increases by 24% In The First Half Of 2014

Tangier Med Port has started the first semester of 2014 on a good note: container traffic stood at 1.5 million containers. This number marks a 24% increase compared to the same period of 2013, as reported by the Port Authority of Tangier Med and Relayed by Aujourd’ui news outlet.

The same source indicates that traffic at Renault’s terminal has reached during the same period 94,500 units of which 79,500 were produced at Renault’s Melloussa Plant, which marks an increase of 64% compared to the first semester of 2013. For the Common User Terminal, the recorded traffic was 24,083 units during the first half of this year; an increase of 51% compared to the same period of 2013.

It is worthy to note that Tangier Med Port was classified by the British magazine “Container Management” at the 55th place among 120 ports worldwide in terms of container traffic. Such performance has made of Tangier Med the 3rd most important port in Africa and 7th in the Mediterranean basin.
