Moroccans Took to the Streets of Rabat to Denounce Israel’s Assault on Gaza

Moroccans have taken to the streets yesterday in Rabat to protest Israel’s continuing airstrikes, and its ground invasion, on the Gaza strip, which resulted just during the very same day, Sunday, in the killing of at least 87 Palestinians, without mentioning the death toll that is floating around 450 since the start of the attacks.

The demonstration of Rabat was described as “Al Kharja al Millioniya,” which translates to “the demonstration of the Million People,” in reference to the number of people who turned out in the surroundings of the Moroccan parliament to protest.

Most of the people that took to the streets belong to the banned but tolerated, due to its huge number of followers in Morocco, Justice and Spirituality Association, founded by Abdesslam Yassine.

People from all wakes of ideologies forgot their differences and focused on a sole thing: “denouncing the Zionist oppression of Palestinians, which resulted in the killing, up to know, of at least 450 people, from which 80% are civilians and 25% are children,” one of the protestors said.

The protestors were shouting slogans that called upon the immediate stopping of Morocco’s normalization of relations with Israel.

Among the slogans that were shouted, the one could hear, “Palestine Amana, Al Tatbi3e Khiyana,”  which translates to “Palestine is a trust, normalization is a betrayal,” and “Ghaza Ghaza Ramzou al Izza,” which translates to “Gaza Gaza, Landmark of Glory.”

Other slogans blamed Obama and the west leaders’ nonchalance in regards to the extermination of Palestinians in the Gaza open-air prison.

Examples of such slogans were “ Amoual Sahayin kat sad fem Obama w l3arbiyine,” which may translate to: “the Zionist lobby’s money keeping quiet Obama and the West,” and “galha Chomsky, ya Obama, galha Chomsky,” which may translate to “Chomsky said so, Hey Obama, Chomsky said so,” in reference to MIT Emeritus professor Noam Chomsky’s books where he says that the Zionist lobby’s money control the U.S. decision making.

The protesters were also calling upon the Arab leaders to act politically to stop this when shouting “Oh Arabs Where are you. Where are you, Palestine is calling you.”

The demonstration literally stopped for around 10 minutes to echo a phone call of Khaled Mashal, the Palestinian political leader of the Hamas political bureau, to the protestors where he thanked the Moroccans for their support in regards to this humanitarian cause (video underneath).

Khaled Mashal gave also an account of the current situation in Gaza.
