The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that the body of one of its soldiers, presumed to have been killed on an operation on Sunday, had not still been found or identified. Hamas announced earlier that its military wing captured a soldier named Oron Shaul.
On Sunday during a fierce battle between Hamas militants and Israeli ground forces, an Israeli carrier carrying 7 soldiers was hit by a missile from Hamas. The encounter was the deadliest for Israelis who managed to identify 6 killed soldiers. The military confirmed in a statement that the identification process of six of the soldiers killed had been completed and confirmed. It added that efforts to identify the seventh soldier were ongoing and had yet to be determined. The Israeli were unable until now to confirm Hamas claim that it has abducted one of their soldiers.
The kidnapping of an Israeli soldier by Hamas constitutes a nightmare scenario for Israelis, who have paid a heavy price in the past after one of their soldiers was captured by Hamas.
