FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday, through their official website, that they have officially got an agreement to sign Valencia’s defender Jeremy Mathieu.
The French player will sign a contract with the catalans for the next four seasons, plus an optional season more. The cost of the transfer is 20 million Euros and the buyout clause is around 50 million Euros.
His former club Valencia have rejected the departure of the defender earlier. However, after Barcelona agreed to pay an “extra” 20 million euros and under the insistence of Mathieu and his pressure on the club, his transfer was settled and will be paid through a number of installments.
The Valencia administration warned earlier that they would take Mathieu to their pre-season tour if Barcelona fails to sign him today, which prompted the Catalan administration to resolve matters quickly.
Barcelona is seeking to strengthen their squad with more transactions to be stronger, in order to compensate for last season’s disappointing results.
