A French jihadist was arrested in Moroccan city of Tangiers on Saturday while he was attempting to travel to his country.

According to official sources, the French citizen was intending to conduct recruitment operations in France for the al-Nusra Front, one of the main jihadist factions operating in Syria since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011.

Moroccan authorities claim that some 20 terrorist groups have been dismantled since the beginning of the year. Security has been particularly tight in the last month with threats of a terrorist attack over the country.  A growing number of Moroccan nationals and expatriates have also been reportedly fighting for jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq.
