100 people joined American Jewish writer Norman Finkelstein to protest against Israel’s actions in Gaza. He published through social media a call for civil disobedience, announcing his intention to get arrested while protesting against Israel at Israel’s mission to the UN. 24 other protestors were also arrested. He wrote Monday on his website: “I don’t believe in individual acts of martyrdom. It’s got to be a collective action. If one hundred people either sign up to get arrested or to be there in solidarity, I’ll be there too.”
He also added: “For 20 days I have sat in front of this computer like a mad man. Tomorrow I will be arrested and arrested and arrested until this madness ends.”
Among those arrested were university professor Corey Robin and Vietnam War Veteran Brooke Perry.
It is worth mentioning that Norman Finkelstein is a university professor and specializes in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Holocaust. His Jewish parents are both Holocaust survivors. He is famous for his support to the Palestinian cause. The video below is part of a speech Dr. Norman Finkelstein held at the University of Waterloo in Canada.
