Barcelona has announced that Dutch-Moroccan winger Ibrahim Afellay will join Greek champions Olympiacos on loan for the 2014-2015 campaign. The news was announced on Barcelona official website.

The deal is initially just for one year but Olympiacos have the option of extending it by two. His Barcelona contract expires next year. Barcelona’s director of football Andoni Zubizaretta said: “We want to wish Afellay the best of luck. He is a great professional and a great person – he deserves the best.”

Afellay joined Barcelona from PSV in 2010 but made only 35 appearances for the Blaugrana after a series of injuries. He joined German side Schalke 04 on loan for the 2012/2013 campaign. He picked up a thigh injury in the beginning of last season upon his return to Barcelona.
