On the sidelines of the “Moroccan Sardine Festival”, the minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch noted that “the Moroccan fisheries sector has undergone major advances, particularly after the upgrade of various seaports”.

“Morocco currently has seven wholesale markets, 22 fish ports, 22 halls and desks grading industrial fish as well as fishing villages across the entire Moroccan coast,” mentioned Mr. Akhennouch who also added that “ these facilities are effective in improving the productivity and the competitiveness of Moroccan fishermen”.

The minister also noted that domestic production of sardines undergoes a biological resting program besides the establishment of closed fishing areas and quotas to ensure the necessary reproduction conditions.
