Arsenal to Launch £50mln Move for Cavani after Giroud Injury Blow

Arsenal will look to sign Paris St-Germain star and Manchester United target Edinson Cavani after losing Olivier Giroud to a long-term injury.

The striker was in pain following the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Everton at the weekend, and Arsene Wenger fears the striker could be missing until 2015 with a broken ankle, Daily Express reported.

Arsenal have a number of players who can operate as a striker, including Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo, but Wenger is concerned that the lack of an orthodox forward will hinder his team’s chances in the Premier League race.

And according to reports in France, Wenger is determined to sign Cavani before the end of the window, with a £50 million bid believed to be in the works.

Cavani, who had been tipped earlier in the transfer window to join Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United, is rumoured to be unhappy at the Ligue 1 side with Zlatan Ibrahimovic taking centre-stage, and although the Uruguay international is prepared to give his PSG career one more season, an offer from Arsenal could be too good to turn down.

Laurent Blanc’s team have been linked with a shock move for Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema, and could be tempted to sell the former Napoli man in order to raid Real Madrid before Monday’s deadline.
