Morocco’s state power utility Office National De L’Electricité Et De L’Eau Potable said yesterday “it had obtained a $300 million loan from China Exim Bank to finance a 318 megawatt (MW) coal-fired plant in the eastern town of Jerada,” Reuters reported.

The deal comes after that the said Chinese bank emerged as the winner of a tender launched by the aforementioned power utility company.

It is worth reminding that Morocco has been suffering recently from a huge energy production deficit due to the increasing demand, which is growing annually by around 8%, added up to the growing compensation bill the state spends to subsides electricity due its relatively-high production cost in Morocco.
