France issued a statement asking its expats living in Morocco to be “extremely carefully.”

This security notice comes directly as a result of the the emergence of a video on social media, showing a masked member of a terrorist group calling itself Jund al-Khilafah, or Soldiers of the Caliphate, warning French President Francois Hollande that the hostage will be executed [The French citizen was executed yesterday] unless France ends its airstrikes and other military actions against ISIL.

The security notice concerns also the French expats living in Algeria, Tunisia, Yemen and Mali.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked its embassies to debrief all expats about the current situation as well as to ask them to be “extremely careful”.

A spokesman for the non-Islamic so-called “Islamic State” terrorist organization, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, urged followers on Sunday to kill Europeans and Americans – “especially the spiteful and filthy French.” The terrorist group has already beheaded two American journalists and a British aid worker.

Morocco’s leading economy outlet Leconomiste said that this alert could affect the Moroccan tourism sector to some extent, especially that most tourists that visit Morocco are French.
