A statement from the Moroccan ministry of Interior, relayed by Morocco’s state agency La Map said that “dozens of Moroccan nationals, irregular residents in Algeria, have been temporarily denied access to national soil.”

The statement went on further to say that the Moroccan citizens in question who “probably wish to celebrate Eid El Adha with their families in Morocco tried to walk to cross the Moroccan-Algerian borders”, La Map reported.

“The important flow of these people who wanted to illegally cross the Moroccan-Algerian borders required strict control in order to prevent malevolent intruders from entering national soil”, the ministry added in a the statement relayed by La Map.

Because of security measures put in place by the Moroccan authorities “in response to plausible terrorist threats against Morocco, control measures in all access points throughout the Kingdom have been particularly strengthened”, the same source concluded.
