Morocco is participating in the 35th edition of the World Travel Market in London with a delegation headed by Moroccan Minister of Tourism Lahcen Haddad.

The World Travel Market is a leading global event for the travel industry where senior travel industry professionals, government ministers and media representatives meet in order to network, negotiate and conduct business.

Moroccan Minister of Tourism Lahcen Haddad said that the UK is a top priority market for Morocco and that the kingdom is aiming to welcome one million British tourists per year within three years.

In 2013, 500.000 tourists visited Morocco from the UK and this year’s figures are up 17% against 2012’s figures

According to Lahcen Haddad, the biggest challenge remains airlift despite the fact that there are 83 weekly flights between the UK and Morocco. Most of these flights are from London and the Moroccan National Tourist Office is working to encourage carriers to launch flights from other regional airports in the UK.

Haddad further noted that another challenge facing Morocco was to differentiate itself politically from the rest of the region. He said: “We need to make sure tourists understand that Morocco has made choices which have paid off in terms of safety, security, and tolerance.”

Along with a consumer campaign, the Moroccan National Tourist Office is also planning on running a range of activities with different travel agents.
