Mr. Lahcen Daoudi, Minister of High Education and Scientific Research, declared during yesterday’s parliamentary session of the House of Representatives that “by the horizon 2020, Moroccan universities will loose 14% of their professors.”

According to Daoudi, “there is currently in Morocco a total number of 12,080 professors teaching across the kingdom’s universities. Yet, the number is set to plummet to 10,348 by 2020, if nothing is done to prevent this.”

Daoudi noted further that “the main reason behind this expected drop lies behind many professors edging retirement.”

Daoudi closed stressing that currently, “Morocco has 1 professor for every 70 university students,” and that “the ratio will worsen to 1 professor for every 106 students by 2020, if nothing is done to prevent this.”
