Liverpool are plotting a surprise loan move for Chelsea shot stopper Petr Cech after downplaying talk that a deal is on the cards for Guillermo Ochoa.
Cech has been continually linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in January, with Arsenal also thought to be admirers, Daily Express reported.
The 32-year-old has been understudy to Thibaut Courtois this campaign, although he has had the chance to impress Jose Mourinho in the Blues’ last couple of games against Hull and Derby respectively with Courtois out injured.
Mourinho even admitted last month that he had not received any bids for Cech, and said he is happy with the current goalkeeping situation.
Liverpool meanwhile have lost faith in Simon Mignolet it seems, after Brendan Rodgers dropped his error-prone number one goalkeeper in favour of Brad Jones for the 3-0 defeat away to Manchester United on Sunday.
Reports emerged yesterday that the Reds had agreed a £3 million deal for Ochoa with a view to providing stiff competition for Mignolet.
However, The Daily Mirror claims Liverpool have rubbished talk they have already agreed a deal for Ochoa.
They also claim that Chelsea don’t perceive Liverpool as a direct rival this season, so may be more open to letting Cech leave.
