Leading Member of Al-Istiqlal Party Jailed for “Corruption” and “Abuse of Power”

Abdellatif Abdouh, a leading member of Morocco’s Al-Istiqlal party was sentenced yesterday to 5 years of jail for “corruption and abuse of power charges.”

The Criminal Division of the Marrakesh Court of Appeal also ordered the man to pay a fine of 50,000 dirhams.

Abdellatif Abdouh was found to have abused of his power to issue various illegal permits to people back when was at the head the municipality of Gueliz Marrakech.

The leading member Al-Istiqlal was also found to have embezzled many times public funds.

Among many other cases, the man sold to the owners of hotel Essaâdi of Marrakech, before the hotel was build, the land for 1026 dirhams/m2 against a bribe, while its original price stood at 8000 Dirhams/m2.
