A recent article on the Daily Mail took to rank those countries that “are most dangerous for women travelers,” especially for women who live in the west and take it for granted that they will enjoy the same liberties they have in their host countries.

Morocco ranked as the 8th most dangerous country for female travelers in the report. The report said that “Morocco may not be as female-friendly as you think.”

It is true that “it’s common for female tourists, particularly those travelling on their own, to be routinely harassed by men,” as mentioned the article, yet, and from an objective perspective, the report is to take with a pinch of salt, especially that Morocco is well-known for its friendliness and hospitality vis-à-vis foreigners, a fact which was blatantly disregarded in the report. The report seems as well to have “forgotten” that Morocco was ranked by the Washington Post as the “Third Most Welcoming Country for Foreigners in the World,” only behind Iceland and New Zealand.

The report also seems to start off the wrong foot when saying that “female travelers are advised to dress modestly and cover up in the conservative Muslim country,” as the aforementioned statement is a pure generalization and is all but true for well-known touristic cities like Marrakesh and Rabat. Some Moroccans who live in such cities may even laugh at the aforementioned statement, thinking it is a ridicule one.

Below is the Daily Mail’s Top 10 Most Dangerous Countries for female travelers:

1- India

2- Brazil

3- Turkey

4- Thailand

5- Egypt

6- Colombia

7- South Africa

8- Morocco

9- Mexico

10- Kenya
