Tarfaya, Morocco- According to an announcement made by Nareva at the Investment Forum held in Laayoune last Saturday, the production capacity of the wind farm Akhfennir built by Wind Energy Morocco (EEM) in the Tarfaya region is hitting its second phase and the completion of this phase will result in doubling the total production capacity of the Tarfaya Wind Farm.  As a matter of fact, the current capacity of the farm, which has been in operation since the second half of 2013, is 102 MW, but will increase to 202 MW by the end of the second phase.

With the folding of the second phase of the Tarfaya Wind farm, Morocco will officially have Africa’s largest Wind farm, bypassing the Ethiopian wind farm, which has 84 turbines and producing up to 120 MW.

The third phase of the Tarfaya Wind farm will be unveiled in the coming year, which will raise the power capacity of the park to 300 megawatts.

This project, in fact, emanates from Morocco’s desire to cover, by 2020, 42% of its energy needs, by relying only on renewable energies.

It is worth reminding that the Tarfaya Wind Parc is a project of Nareva, a Moroccan company established in 2005 and a 100% subsidiary of Sociéte Nationaled’Investissement (SNI) with a mission to ensure the presence of Moroccan capital in the Energy and Environmental sectors. Nareva is currently developing the Safi ultra-supercritical coal-fired project with international partners. It operates a 200 MW portfolio including the Akhfennir, Haouma and Foum el Oued wind farms, and the company has started building the expected-to-generate 300 MW wind farm of Tarfaya in partnership with GDF SUEZ.
