Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- In his most recent column entitled “A Barking Dog That Never Bites,” referring to the Moroccan authorities’ efforts in fighting rampant corruption in the north African kingdom, Morocco’s most read columnist Taoufiq Bouachrine said that “Morocco is not serious about fighting corruption.”

The said column featured on Morocco’s news outlet Akhbar Al Yaoum last weekend. Taoufiq Bouachrine stressed that” if you want proof to that [ that Morocco is not serious about fighting corruption], then you should know that the position of Solicitor General at the Court of Audits is vacant for five years now, and that no one has been appointed to replace Mr. Mohammed Acherkiy since he left his post and headed to the Constitutional Council.”

“This means that the Moroccan authorities do want to turn the Court of Audit into an institution without any power… to a barking dog that never bites …,” Bouachrine said.
