Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The United Nations Security Council extended yesterday the mandate of the MINURSO for another year.

The Security Council said it fully supports the commitment of the Secretary-General, Ban ki-moon and his Personal Envoy Christopher Ross vis-à-vis finding a solution to the ongoing Sahara issue.

The Security Council called for “renewed meetings and strengthening of contacts.”

The new resolution calls upon all parties to “fully cooperate” with the efforts of the MINURSO to solve the issue.

The new resolution also called upon Morocco and the Polisario front “to show political will and work in an atmosphere propitious for dialogue” with a purpose to trigger an “intensive and substantive” post phase of negotiations.
