Rabat, Morocco (TMT) – Morocco’s Al Akhbar (The News) daily said in its yesterday edition that Ms. Soumia Benkhaldoun, Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Executive Training, has divorced from her husband two years ago and not recently as various media outlets, including notorious opposition leaders, such as Hamid Chabat, the Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party, asserted.

“My divorce from my husband has nothing to do with Mr. Habib Choubani. [ The Moroccan Minister of Relations with the Parliament & Civil Society]. He [Choubani] communicated his intention to marry me after he was informed about my divorce.”

“Again, I stress that no third party should poke its nose in my divorce. It is a purely personal choice, nothing to do with the public affairs of Morocco and my ministerial duties,” Benkhaldoune added.

It is worth reminding that Hamid Chabat called Mr. Choubani “a womanizer, who destroyed a minister’s nest, after 30 years of marriage, and despite having 4 kids and being a grandma.”

Benkhaldoune reacted to his statements lauding him of critics. Among others, she  said that “contrary to the truth, and in flagrant violation of the ethics of Islam and the traditions of the Moroccan people, who are well-known for respecting the sanctity of families and the private life of individuals, Mr. Hamid Chabat, the Secretary General of the Party of Independence poked his nose into the subject of my divorce, blatantly lying, distorting, and overly magnifying the subject, in a bet for him to make it a political discourse and a part of Morocco’s public affairs.”
