Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Moroccan authorities replied back to Amnesty International last report on “torture in Morocco,” during a press conference, organized by the Inter-Ministerial Delegation for Human Rights, calling it [the report] a “biased and subjective report by Amnesty International (AI) which included Morocco among countries targeted by the global anti-torture campaign “Stop Torture”, in a clear will to point an accusing finger at the Kingdom,” Morocco’s state agency La Map relayed.

The Moroccan authorities questioned the “organization’s real motives against Morocco through this campaign which cited torture cases in 141 countries, including 79 countries which still practice it,” La Map further noted.

The Moroccan authorities thought the”choice is surprising for a country like Morocco given the progress it has undergone and still undergoing, and which led to tangible and internationally-recognized results regarding the amelioration of the human rights situation in general for over 20 years and the fight against torture in particular.”

“The Moroccan authorities regret that the publishing of the report is driven by the will to minimize the current dynamic and the progress achieved in terms of fighting torture, belittling and denigrating the Kingdom,” La Map relayed.
