Townsville, Australia (TMT)-According to Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet), Muslims living in Australia, or anywhere in the world, can eat Kangaroo/Wallaby meat as it is considered “halal food.”

“Islamic scholars agree that ‘halal’ animals that are not mentioned in the Quran and in the hadith [the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad] are those that don’t eat feces and carcasses, and which are therefore neither wild nor coarse,” A statement from Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate, relayed by Turkish outlet Hurriyetdailynews, read.

The fatwa said that eating Kangaroo/Wallaby meat is by the aforementioned standards Halal because it is classified in the same category with other “grass eating, clean animals like deer, gazelle and antelope.”
