Townsville, Australia (TMT)- An alarming report by the UNICEF released this month revealed that 20,000 Moroccan children (under 5 years old) were killed in 2015 because of diseases related to poverty.

The UNICEF report, which sheds light on the situation of children worldwide, painted a grim picture of the situation of kids in Morocco.

According to the said report, 22% of the 20000 children that passed away in 2015 in the Moroccan Kingdom are babies under two months. In this category, 3% passed away due to pulmonary diseases while 11% from complications during childbirth.

For another age category, namely that of children aged between 1 month and 5 years, 8% of the death cases are related again to pulmonary diseases, followed by diarrhea (4%) and meningitis (1%).

The report said that 28 deaths are recorded in Morocco for every 1,000 births.
