Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- For the second weekend in a row, the locals of the Moroccan city of Tangier took again to the streets parallel to Amandis’ locals in huge numbers, protesting the sky-rocketing prices of electricity the said water and electricity management company started incurring them, while carrying candles in their hands in a symbolic gesture.
In parallel to the huge demonstrations, which the authorities answered this time by directing water canons at protesters, the locals this time turned off the lights for two hours instead of a mere one last weekend.
Cafes, restaurants, barber shops, mosques and others also turned off lights, only using candles instead.
Local reports say that at least 60000 people took part of the huge protests, and that people who did not take to the streets showed their solidarity with the movement by, at least, turning off their houses lights.
The current peaceful protests in Tangier are a never-seen before in terms of creativity, unity, and the high-level of civility most protestants have showcased.
