Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s head of the government Mr. Abdellilah Benkirane said in the wake of a parliamentary session in the house of representatives yesterday that “King Mohammed VI woke me up at 6 AM to criticize me for not doing the necessary to find a solution to the wave of protests that befell Tangier,” where people took to the streets on three weekends in a row, peacefully protesting against what they called sky-rocketing prices of electricity the water & electricity management company Amandis started incurring them.

“In the aftermath, I met with Morocco’s Ministry of Interior and asked him to join me to Tangier to discuss with all stakeholders the issue,” Benkirane stressed.

“We told them that all problems that currently exist can be solved,” Benkirane further noted.

“The company [Amandis] had to recheck the issued bills, and at that time they had already reviewed 9000 ones,” Benkirane said.

It is worth reminding that the city of Tangier turned dark on three occasions as its citizens agreed to turn off lights to protest against Amandis, initially for one hour on the first weekend of protests, then for two hours during the second and third weekends.
