Many Moroccan Jews Are Leaving Morocco to Israel

Rabat, Morocco(TMT)- The latest figures from the Israeli Bureau of Statistics said that in 2014 alone, 729 Jewish Moroccans have emigrated to Israel.

According to the same source, the number represents an increase of 230% compared to figures from 2013.

Moroccan news outlet Telquel described the figures as alarming and “particularly worrying,” especially that the estimated number of Jews in Morocco do not exceed 3000 individuals.

According to the Israeli Bureau of Statistics, the number of Moroccan Jews who emigrated to Israel in 2013 stood at 297.

Beetween 2000 and 2012, 2894 Moroccan jews have joined Israel, the aformentioned source said.

The same source added that between 1948 and 1971, around 200,000 Moroccan jews had emigrated to Israel.
