Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- While speaking at the monthly session of oral questions in the House of Representatives last Tuesday, Morocco’s head of the government Abdellilah Benkirane renewed his call for Algeria to open its borders, for the benefit of the brotherly people of Algeria and Morocco, two countries that share the same ethnicity, religion, culture, history and many more.

Benkirane said that Algerians and Moroccans are brothers and neighbors and that the Algerian president Bouteflika should reopen the borders.

Morocco’s head of the government has even called Algeria’s president by name when saying, “Bouteflika, reopen the borders since we are brothers.”

Benkirane said that the only reason that holds back the Algerian authorities from reopening the borders would be “the fear of seeing more Algerians go to Morocco,” but the head of the Moroccan government stressed that “this fear should is not legitimate since we are brothers.”

Benkirane, who was addressing directly the Algerian President Bouteflika, further noted that he was hoping that Bouteflika would “take note of this offer of friendship and brotherhood and reopen borders.”

Economical analysts say that the GDP of Morocco and Algeria may increase by up to 2% if the two countries reopen their borders and propel their bilateral cooperation, especially that both countries have complementary economies.
