Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- One day following Morocco cracking the whip on the European Union (EU) when deciding yesterday to suspend all ties with the European entity, the very EU decided today to appeal for Morocco to resume talks with Brussels as soon as possible.

“We are ready to provide all clarifications and additional assurances to respond to Morocco‘s concerns, so the contacts and cooperation can be re-established as soon as possible,” EU foreign policy spokeswoman Catherine Ray said Friday.

“It is our conviction that a true partnership implies listening, sharing, solidarity and mutual respect among partners,” Ray added.

The head of the Moroccan Government, Abdellilah Benkirane, commented on the decision saying that “the question of the territorial integrity of Morocco is not just an essential matter for Moroccans, but rather the most essential one.”

“Morocco does not play when it comes to its territorial integrity. The European Union needs to take this into account. The European Union should hold Morocco in the regard it [Morocco] deserves,” Benkirane further noted.

“I hope that the European Union will take the right procedures and provide us with assurances so that things evolve towards a real cooperation,” Benkirane added.

“For them [The EU] maybe, they see it as a matter of commercial cooperation only, but we don’t see it that way. For us, it’s more than a matter commercial cooperation, tomatoes, or even fish. It’s our territorial integrity,” Benkirane closed.
