Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Moroccan paper Aujourdhui said in its today’s edition that the Moroccan Ministry in charge of Water gave its green light to build 7 new dams in the provinces of Guelmim and Sidi Ifni.

The decision comes mainly to cover the growing shortage of water supply, to provide the needed water resources for irrigation, to prevent floods, and to mitigate the impacts associated with irregular rainfalls in said provinces.

The estimated costs of construction of the aforementioned dams amount to DH 800 million for the “Fask Dam” and over DH 1 billion for the “Assaka Dam”.

For the 5 other remaining ones (small and medium size dams), the costs vary from 25 to 40 million dirhams.

The construction works will kick off with the unveiling of 2017.
