Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- A report published in the wake of the yearly celebration of the National Journey of Civil Society, on the 13th of March, said that state financial support to Moroccan associations amounted in 2015 to more than DH 2 billion.
The number represents 1% of the current government budget, as stated Morocco’s head of the government, Abdellilah Benkirane, during the celebration ceremony of the National Journey of Civil Society. [The 2015 government budget stood at DH 300 billion]
The report states that currently Morocco has 130,000 registered associations, a number in constant increase as back in 2014 only 116,000 were registered.
As a matter of fact, jut in the last two years, 14,000 new associations were created.
The report states that the Casablanca-Settat region holds the lion’s share of the number of associations operating, 19,500.
Morocco’s head of the government warned that some associations, however, “should not seek fortune in governmental financial support.”
