Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Abdelilah Benkirane, Morocco’s head of the government and the secretary general of Morocco’s Justice and Development Party, (well known under its French acronym PJD), will be allowed an additional year at the head of the PJD, in a bet to keep the man as head of government for a second mandate in case the PJD wins the upcoming parliamentarian elections, scheduled to take place early October.

The news was revealed by Moroccan paper Al Masae in today’s edition.

The paper further noted that the PJD is planning to organize “an extraordinary congress in June or July to allow Benkirane for an extra year as head of the PJD.”

The mandate of a PJD secretary General is 4 years normally, but discussions within the General Secretariat of the party are in line to extend Benkirane’s mandate for a fifth year, Al Massae said.
