Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- 19 persons were killed and 1.523 others were wounded, among whom 83 were severely injured in 1.082 accidents within urban areas in a week (from the 14th to the 15th of March).
According to a released statement by the General Directorate of National Security, the main reasons behind these accidents are attributed to lack of attention to pedestrians, not respecting the right of precedence, excessive speeding, change of lanes without signal, driving under the influence of alcohol and not respecting the stop sign among others.
When it comes to surveillance of traffic, the same source indicates that 41.827 violations were recorded, among which 18.308 were sent to the public prosecutor and 23.519 were paid fines that totaled to a sum of 8.273.475 Dirhams.
