Morocco: 17 Dead And 1.360 Injured In Traffic Accidents In Urban Districs Last Week

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- 17 persons were killed and 1.360 others were wounded, among whom 53 were severely injured in 1.045 accidents within urban areas in a week (from the 21th to the 27th of March).

According to a released statement by the General Directorate of National Security, the main reasons behind these accidents are attributed to lack of attention to pedestrians, not respecting the right of precedence, excessive speeding, change of lanes without signal, driving under the influence of alcohol and not respecting the stop sign among others.

5067 cars were sent to vehicle impoundments, with the list including 276 cars that were seized.

When it comes to surveillance of traffic, the same source indicates that 40.419 violations were recorded, among which 17.411 were sent to the public prosecutor and 23.008 were paid fines that totaled to a sum of 8.108.750 Dirhams.
