Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- According to a story published in yesterday’s edition of Moroccan paper Akhbar Al Yaoum, “over 52 million dirhams were compulsorily withdrawn from the bank account of the municipality of the Moroccan city of Tangier following a court ruling against this latter,” in the wake of the electricity payment crisis the city is witnessing.

The deputy mayor of the city, Mohamed Amahjour, said that the city’s budget is almost empty now.

The man said that this will have serious consequences on the management of the communal services in Tangier.

“The accounts of the municipality of Tangier suffered, starting from last October, many withdrawals that have reached 52 million dirhams,” Amahjour told Akhbar Al Yaoum.

Amahjour says he is not to blame for the situation as he was elected only few months ago in the wake of the 2015 communal and regional elections, stressing that he found himself unwillingly in the middle of this crisis.
