Marrakesh, Morocco(TMT)- Two women belonging to the Femen group were arrested today after protesting topless in front of the Court of First Instance of Beni Mellal.

People waiting in front of said court were surprised to see two women stripped to the waist kissing while showing off half-naked with “In Gay We Trust” written over their chests.

It was not the police officers who arrested initially the two Femen members, but a mob of locals who were standing in front of the court.

The two women started running away (check video underneath) when they saw a huge mob of locals running after them, but their efforts went in vain as men and women from all ages arrested them and wrapped their naked chests with towels and long clothes.

The locals held both women in a tight headlock until police arrived few minutes later.

The two women were protesting the jailing of two Moroccan gays because of “homosexuality acts.”

The Moroccan authorities issued a statement saying that “the women are French citizens who entered the Moroccan territory yesterday,” further stressing that “they belong to an organization that supports acts of moral indecency.”

The statement added that both women “had been expelled after performing in front of the Court of First Instance in Beni Mellal indecent acts, acts against public morality.”

Sara Mansour, a young woman who lives in Beni Mellal, said in a quipping tone, in a Facebook post that “the two Femen members were lucky that the authorities did not take much time to come on the scene, otherwise they would have returned to France with one breast each.”

It is worth reminding that homosexuality is strictly forbidden in Morocco, with article 489 of the Moroccan Penal Code criminalizing “lewd or unnatural acts with an individual of the same sex.”

Homosexuality acts in Morocco can be punished with anything from 6 months to 3 years imprisonment, including a fine ranging from 120 to 1200 dirhams.
