Marrakesh, Morocco(TMT)- The Court of First Instance of Beni Mellal released yesterday the two gays convicted of homosexuality, while jailing two of the four persons who assaulted the two gays and forced them to walk naked in the streets of said city.

The judge made his judgement on the basis that the two gays were having sex in private, including hiding their sexual orientations, taking into consideration that the attackers infringed initially the law when spying on both gays and breaking illegally to their local.

It is worth reminding that homosexuality is strictly forbidden in Morocco, with article 489 of the Moroccan Penal Code criminalizing “lewd or unnatural acts with an individual of the same sex.”

Homosexuality acts in Morocco can be punished with anything from 6 months to 3 years imprisonment, including a fine ranging from 120 to 1200 dirhams.
