Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- According to a story featured in today’s edition of the Moroccan daily Akhbar Al Yaoum, the Columbia ambassador to Morocco has asked his embassy’s staff members to search online for a video where Morocco’s head of the government, Abdellilah Benkirane, allegedly said, while speaking during a PJD party gathering last Saturday in Salé, that “Morocco does not want to host Columbia-like drug mafias and cartels if it legalizes cannabis,” hitting at the PAM party’s staunch advocacy to legalize the drug.

According to the Moroccan paper, the Colombian ambassador was made aware of Benkirane’s alleged statement when some Moroccan journalists surprised him with various questions about this, including a question about  “whether if Columbia decided to take any actions vis-à-vis Benkirane’s statement or not?” while he was all but aware about Benkirane’s alleged statement.

The Moroccan paper said that some videos of Benkirane allegedly “criticizing” Columbia were presented to the Colombian embassy, but they turned out to be edited videos.

The Moroccan Times editorial team understands that the journalists who shared the news with the Columbia ambassador may be driven by political machination games, especially that an array of Moroccan outlets already affirmed that “Columbia decided to break all relations with Morocco”, which is not true, and is itself a proof of malevolence and badwill of such journalists.
