Correction: This post has been corrected. In Moroccan Darija, the expression “An Douz Alik” may mean “I will F*** you.” The Qaed employed the expression “Ila Mahchemtich, an douz Alik,” when humiliating the late, but he apparently did not mean it that way. Rather he meant the literal connotation of the expression, “I’ ll run you over with my car if you don’t shut up.” Our apologies for the early wrong translation.

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Only few days following a young Moroccan man setting himself ablaze and passing away in Casablanca after he was asked to hand a bribe to a Moroccan official to get his resident certificate, a similar event occurred last weekend when a Moroccan woman, a crepes street vendor, passed away after immolating herself (check video underneath).

The sad event happened last Saturday in the Hay Mbarek Al Hashemi neighborhood in Kenitra.

According to local witnesses, the late, who goes by the name Fatiha, was subject to injustice as a municipal official and his aides confiscated all her wares, harassed her and humiliated her, which drove her to set herself ablaze, mimicking the well-known self-immolation scene of young Tunisian Bouazizi, one that triggered the Arab spring.

According to local witnesses, a municipal official (Qaed) told Fatiha after confiscating her wares, “I’ ll run you over with my car if you don’t shut up.”

The late was laid to rest today in the presence of a huge number of people from her poor neighborhood, who seized the opportunity to protest against municipal officials constant humiliation and confiscation of their wares, calling on king Mohammed VI “to intervene to stop the ongoing injustice.”
