Morocco: 10 Dead And 1.451 Injured In Traffic Accidents In Urban Districs In A Week

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- 10 persons were killed and 1.451 others were wounded, among whom 60 were severely injured in 1.073 accidents within urban areas in a week (from the 11th to the 17th of April).

According to a released statement by the General Directorate of National Security, the main reasons behind these accidents are attributed to lack of attention to pedestrians, not respecting the right of precedence, excessive speeding, change of lanes without signal, driving under the influence of alcohol and not respecting the stop sign among others.

4.980 cars were sent to vehicle impoundments, with the list including 241 cars that were seized.

When it comes to surveillance of traffic, the same source indicates that 38.968 violations were recorded, among which 15.977 were sent to the public prosecutor and 23.008 were paid fines that totaled to a sum of 8.103.625 Dirhams.
