Rabat, Morocco (TMT)-A Moroccan opposition parliamentarian, by name Mohamed Achrourou, from the Party of Authenticity and Modernity, resigned live on air during the monthly general policy session which was held on Tuesday (April 26th).

The rationale behind his resignation, according to Achrourou, is what he describes as “the current government’s failed policies, especially in the health sector,” taking as an example a recently-modified government plan that would have required medical students to spend two years in a remote area of Morocco, part of a civil service programme after graduation.

The PAM team started cheering on Achourourou as he handed his resignation paper to the head of the house of representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, which triggered Morocco’s head of the government, Benkirane, to urge all the PAM team to resign.

“You should all resign if you agree with him. If you do so, we’ll finally breath fresh air,” Benirane said

“He should have resigned long time ago, not just 5 months before the next parliamentarian elections,” Benkirane added.

“Regarding the medical project, we need to take care of the poor people who live in Morocco’s remote areas. They are also Moroccans and there are almost no doctors to provide care in rural regions,” Benkirane added.

“I swear by Allah, my daughter in law was going to be dispatched to a remote area for this endeavor, like all other medical students. It is a duty,” Benkirane angrily said.
