Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- During yesterday’s daily press briefing by the office of the spokesman for the general secretary, Farhan Haq, the Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said that the head of the MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) will be reinvigorating the negotiation process between Morocco and the Polisario front in the short future.

“Over the past weeks, Mr. Ross has been in frequent contact with the parties and neighbouring States on the need to reinvigorate the Western Sahara negotiating process, as well as on the timing of his next visits to the North African region,” Farhan Haq said.

“Now that the Security Council has welcomed the results of the agreement on MINURSO and reiterated its call for renewed negotiations, nothing stands in the way of Mr. Ross’s return to the North African region to pursue his facilitation efforts,” Farhan Haq added.

“A formal proposal is being made to the parties and neighbouring States,” Farhan Haq stressed.
