Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s Minister of Interior, Mohammed Hassad, said that the clean up operation taking place in the narrow buffer strip in south-western Western Sahara between the Moroccan berm and the Mauritanian border is in line with the ceasefire agreement.

“The aim behind this operation is to halt the increasing security risks in the region, the proliferation of smuggling operations, drug trafficking, including the various obstacles that affect the flow of traffic to Mauritania,” Hassad said.

“The operation is still taking place,” Hassad stressed.

“The operation will continue in line with its underlined objectives, in coordination with the MINURSO,” Hassad went on to add.
